US claims it remains invested in Afghanistan’s stability

The United States remains invested in Afghanistan’s security and stability. The sentiment was expressed when US State Department said Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin spoke to Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday.

The US and UK have sent thousands of troops to evacuate their embassy staff in Kabul. Just as the Taliban topple Kandahara and Herat, Afghanistan’s two biggest cities.

The US State department said that they would hasten the special immigration visa flights for the Afghans who had helped US in its cause. Other countries have also encouraged their citizens to leave Afghanistan immediately.

In a feeble attempt to validate themselves a Taliban spokesperson has commented that their victory in so many cities is proof that the Afghans welcome them. The Taliban have been on the offensive since May and haven’t lent an ear to the peace talks in Qatar or international pressure for ceasefire.

The US defence intelligence expects the Taliban to besiege Kabul with the next thirty days and take over within ninety.
