Pakistan has said that all energies should be directed towards solving the Afghanistan issue instead of blaming Islamabad for it.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Foreign Office spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri addressed those elements who were blaming Islamabad for the recent spike in violence in Afghanistan and said “peace in Afghanistan means peace in Pakistan.”
He said Pakistan’s sacrifices in the Afghan peace process are innumerable.
“Pakistan wants peace in Afghanistan.”
The spokesperson stated that three important milestones in the Afghan peace process — the Taliban-US peace agreement, intra-Afghan talks, and agreement on rules and procedures — were achieved by Pakistan’s cooperation.
He said that the Pakistan Foreign Office is ready to work with all parties to bring peace to the country and that Islamabad has “no favourites” in Afghanistan.
Chaudhri quoted the US Department of Defense that Afghan forces have “more modern weapons, airpower, and numbers than the Taliban.”
He said it was very important to know “why the Afghan army is weak.”
He stated that there is no military solution to the crisis in Afghanistan and that Pakistan also does not support that option.
Chaudhari reiterated that “factions from within and outside Afghanistan are undermining the Afghan peace process,” adding that “the people of Afghanistan do trust Pakistan,” while there are some who tried to sabotage that trust and relations between the two nations.
“These elements will not be allowed to harm Pakistan-Afghanistan relations,” Chaudhri concluded.
