Indian Capital, once again, confronted with Islamophobic sentiments; suspects in police custody over raising Anti-Muslim Slogans.

BJP leader and Supreme Court lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay organized a demonstration for “scrapping the colonial-era laws” which turned into an anti-Muslim protest.

Perturbing videos show the mob of more than 100 people vociferously calling Muslims “pigs” and calling for the “mass slaying” of Muslims who constitute about 14% of India’s population.

The slogans raised were “Jab mulle kaate jayenge, wo Ram Ram chillayenge” (When Muslims will be slain, they will chant Lord Ram’s name) and “Hindustan mein rahna hoga, to Jai Shri Ram kahna hoga” (If you want to live in India, you must say Hail Lord Ram).

On Monday night, Delhi Police detained the BJP leader and four others for “questioning.” Moreover, police had initially filed charges against unknown persons who were behind the fiasco.

It must be noted that 53 people, most of them Muslims, were killed in the religious violence in the February last year. The riots were occurred over controversial Indian citizen ship laws.

Critics hold that India’s secular identity is once again under question by this discriminative action.
