Pakistan Tehreek-e Insaf’s Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi has been elected as the Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The newly-elected premier secured the top-seat with 33 votes while Pakistan People’s Party’s joint opposition candidate got 15 votes.

Initially, Sardar Abdul Qayyum was not considered as a candidate for the premiership but his name was only included at the eleventh hour.

Niazi left the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference to join the PTI two years ago. He was elected from LA-18 Poonch-1 constituency of AJK in the recent elections.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said that Prime Minister Imran Khan nominated the newly elected member of the AJK Legislative Assembly.

Chaudhry said the former AJK Food Minister was chosen after a long process of deliberation and suggestions.

Yesterday, Anwarul Haq and Riaz Gujjar took their oaths as the speaker and deputy speaker, respectively, in the AJK Legislative Assembly.
