Kalsoom Parveen, a PML-N Senator from Balochistan, has passed away due to COVID-19, per a statement from the Senate Secretariat. The Senator had been placed on ventilator last month due to her worsening condition.

President Arif Alvi, in a statement posted on Twitter, expressed deep sorrow over her passing.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani, Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwala, Leader of the House in the Senate Dr. Shahzad Waseem and the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Raja Zafar-ul-Haq also expressed condolence over the death of Senator Kalsoom Parveen, according to Radio Pakistan.

Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, in a statement, said that “she did not only serve the people in underdeveloped areas of Balochistan but also played an important role in Pakistani politics.”

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz expressed his condolences over her passing, and praised her positive mindset. He also lauded her advocacy for the upliftment of people of Balochistan.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Faisal Javed Khan remembered Senator Kalsoom Parveen for her “pleasant, straight forward and very charming personality.”

Senator Kalsoom Parveen was also serving as the Chairperson of the Chess Federation of Pakistan.

The International Chess Federation expressed grief over her passing in a tweet.
