Forty-six Afghan National Army (ANA) and Border Police soldiers, including five officers, have sought refuge in Pakistan, says an ISPR press release issued on Monday.

According to the press release, the Afghan soldiers arrived at Arundu Sector in Chitral late last night. They told the army that they were unable to hold their military posts along Pakistan-Afghan International Border due to evolving security situation in Afghanistan.

Pakistan army contacted Afghan authorities and after confirmation, provided food and necessary medical care as per established military norms, the ISPR added.

The soldiers would be handed over to Afghan authorities in a dignified manner after due process, it said.

On July 1, 35 Afghan soldiers requested the Pak army for refuge. They were also given safe passage into Pakistan and handed over to Afghan authorities after the due procedure, the press release concluded.
