The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) said on Thursday it could not free cargo ship Heng Tong 77 that ran aground near Sea View on Wednesday morning.
It said it was unable to move the ship from shallow water as it was stuck in the sand. The ship could remain stuck for a long time, it added.
The KPT said the ship could be rescued by a foreign salvage company.
The KPT administration had issued a statement and sent rescue teams to evacuate the ship but the operation could not be started due to limited resources.
Cargo ship Heng Tong 77 drifted aground near Sea View after she dragged anchor in rough weather.
According to preliminary information, the ship anchored off Karachi for the purpose of crew change when its engine started to falter and high tides pushed it towards the coast, a few kilometers away from Sea View.
Officials say KPT and Navy ships have been attempting to free the vessel, adding it can’t be ascertained how long it will take.
The ship started its journey from Singapore and its port of destination is unclear.
