The maneuvering of the PML-Q leadership has paid dividends as Moonis Elahi is reportedly being inducted in the cabinet as federal minister for water resources.

The scion of pollical dynasty of Chaudhris, Moonis will be the 52nd member of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s cabinet which includes 27 ministers, four state ministers, four advisers and 16 special assistants.

According to sources, the Cabinet Division will issue a notification in this regard soon.

The son of Punjab Assembly speaker and former chief minister Pervaiz Elahi, Moonis was elected to the National Assembly in 2018.

The party is an ally of the ruling PTI in the Centre and Punjab and Moonis will be the second lawmaker from the PML-Q, after Tariq Bashir Cheema, to be given the portfolio of a federal minister.

Sources said almost a week ago a PML-Q delegation comprising Pervaiz Elahi, Federal Minister for Housing Tariq Bashir Cheema and Moonis Elahi, met Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad.

It is reported that they discussed with the premier the political situation in Punjab and the provincial budget, “smooth” conduct of the Punjab Assembly proceedings during the budget debate and construction of new Punjab Assembly building were also discussed.

The participants had agreed that the two parties must make collective efforts for the progress and prosperity of the country’s biggest province.
