On Saturday, Apple Inc. said it would not give new business to the Wistron, the Taiwanese firm that operated a factory in India manufacturing iPhones after workers in Bengaluru ransacked factory for non-payment salaries.
Apple said Wistron violated supplier code of conduct and failed to implement proper working hours which led to payment delays for some workers in October and November.
In an earlier statement released to the media, an Apple spokesperson said that the company is “dedicated to ensuring everyone in our supply chain is treated with dignity and respect.” Adding that it has “immediately launched a detailed investigation at Wistron’s Narasapura facility in India” and its teams are “in close touch with the local authorities and we’re offering our full support to their investigation.”
“Our main objective is to make sure all the workers are treated with dignity and respect, and fully compensated promptly.”
In a statement earlier on Saturday, Wistron admitted some workers at its plant in Karnataka’s Kolar district had not been paid properly and said it was removing a top executive overseeing India business.
