As temperature soared, the electricity crisis in the country intensified as overall shortfall reached 6,000 megawatts.
Sources said on Thursday that the country has an overall power demand of 25,000 megawatts, while it is generating around 19,000 megawatts – 6,000 megawatts short of the demand.
The load management has reached six to eight hours daily in big cities, while towns and villages have been facing up to 10 hours’ load shedding a day.
The power shortfall increased due to fall in generation at various sources owing to several reasons. According to reports the shortfall has increased due to reduction in power generation from RLNG and hydel power generation sources.
Karachi, Lahore and other big cities of the country reeling under heavy load shedding leaving citizens without electricity for several hours daily.
In the port city of Karachi even the areas that were once exempted from the load shedding also facing frequent power outages.
In Lahore, following the increase in demand for electricity, almost entire city continue to experience prolonged power outages on daily basis as the power crisis has reached 800 megawatts.
