The amnesty scheme given by the government to the construction sector has ended today. For an extension in this, the government will have to do legislation in the parliament or bring an ordinance.

The government is in talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to extend the amnesty for real estate. So far, the negotiations have ended with no result.

Last month, Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin had said the government is striving hard to continue the amnesty scheme for the construction industry, but there are some hurdles and problems in this regard from the International Monetary Funds (IMF) and Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

Replying a question during the post-budget press conference in Islamabad, he said, “this amnesty scheme would continue for a few more months as Prime Minister Imran Khan wants to continue it and we are in touch with the IMF team.”
