Prime Minister Imran Khan said Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa is tolerating verbal attacks by PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif for the sake of democracy. He said there is a “a lot of anger” within the army on Nawaz Sharif’s diatribe.
Talking to Samaa TV channel, PM Khan praised Gen Bajwa’s patience and his support of democracy. “I praise Gen Bajwa today. To attack an Army Chief in this manner; a reaction comes from the army. There would be a big reaction if somebody else was leading the army.”
He said the opposition’s demand from the army to remove an elected government is illegal and fall under Article 6.
He said opposition cannot sustain a week-long sit-in. “I would start thinking of resignation if opposition will sustain even a week-long dharna,” he said. He said government would accept opposition’s resignation if they ever submitted. He said most of PDM’s member parliament would not submit their resignation.
