KARACHI: Flying Cement Company Limited has completed the installation of its new power plant and plans to start power production from next month. The project will reduce the cost of production and enable the company to eliminate dependency on power supply from Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).
“The installation of the new power plant with a capacity of 12MW has been completed at its site in District Khushab and its trial
operations are expected to be stated during next month Insha Allah,” the company announced in a statement issued at Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) today.
“The start of this captive power plant will eliminate the dependency on WAPDA and enable the company to be self-reliant in power consumption whilst also resulting in significant cost saving on account of power going forward.” The power plant will be based on coal as an economical source of fuel.
Flying Cement Company is part of Flying Group of Industries, which was founded in 1979. The company was formerly known as Zaman Cement Company Limited and was incorporated in December 1992 as a public limited company.
The factory is located in Mangowal, District Khushab, in Punjab province and comprises of land in excess of 121 acres. The company has a single kiln with an installed capacity of 2000 tons per day of cement by using the latest dry process technology.In addition to this, it has a rated capacity of 600,000 metric tons of cement per annum.
It has a Japanese plant supplied by IHI Japan. The plant is completely redesigned and re-engineered by Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Company Limited, Japan (“IHI”), Japan. Ishikawajima Harima is the supplier and technical advisor of the company.
