QUETTA: Two former leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) from Balochistan have decided to join the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) along with their supporters months after quitting the PML-N.

Lt General (r) Abdul Qadir Baloch had parted ways with the PML-N over his reservations on the anti-establishment rhetoric of PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz, whereas Sanaullah Zehri, who served as chief minister during the PML-N government in Balochistan, quit the party after he was not invited to a Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM). Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) chief Akhtar Mengal had told the PML-N not to invite Zehri to the PDM rally if they wanted the BNP-M to participate.

Announcing the decision on Tuesday, Baloch said: “We have consulted our people and like-minded political and tribal friends and with their consent decided to join the PPP on the invitation of the party leadership.”

Nawab Zehri, speaking through video link, said: “We do not take decisions in closed drawing rooms. We take decisions after consulting our people and link-minded friends.”
