KARACHI: Partner of MG motors in Pakistan Javed Afridi Wednesday announced that the company has produced its first locally made MG car in Pakistan.

In a tweet, Javed Afridi said, “Alhamdulillah, first locally made MG car is on the wheels.” He also shared two pictures of this locally assembled vehicle in his tweet.

“This surely is a huge step forward for the company, as it was only selling CBU units of HS. And this has been causing delays in the delivery of these vehicles due to pandemic restriction globally. The manufacturing of CKD means that the company will now start delivering these units, which should be resulted in smooth delivery to its buyers,” said an industry insider.

The company has not revealed the price of locally assemble units. However, the reports have suggested that it will be cheaper than the CBU units. Furthermore, the sources have revealed that after the arrival of CKD units in the market, the company will stop importing CBU units.

MG Motors Pakistan announced a few days ago that it will start local production of its vehicles very soon. In a social media post, the company said, “Construction of the first MG Motor’s assembly plant is in progress under the supervision of both Pakistani and Chinese experts.” The statement further read that very soon, it will be capable of taking the next step of producing vehicles in Pakistan.

“A great step forward, not only for us but for the whole automotive industry in Pakistan,” the company said.

MG Pakistan is currently offering HS and ZS for selling, while it is expected that the sale of ZS EV will start soon. Furthermore, Afridi has hinted at the launch of three different vehicles, i.e. Gloster, MG3 and MG5.
