The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Monday drew international attention to the ongoing violence against Palestinians in Occupied Palestinian Territories in a letter to the President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Niger and Algeria, in their capacity as the Chairs of the OIC, conveyed their deep regrets over the situation in the territories.
The letter further urged the president of the UNGA to urgently call a session of the assembly to discuss the deteriorating situation in Palestine and the Palestinian question.
Earlier the OIC had condemned Israeli attacks on Palestinians and warned about dangerous consequences of the deliberate inflammation of religious sensibilities and provocation of Palestinians and the Islamic Ummah.
A virtual meeting of the Ministerial Executive Committee of the OIC was held in which the forum adopted a resolution to “discuss the aggression by Israel, the occupying power, in the Palestinian territories, in particular, Al-Quds Al-Shareef (East Jerusalem)”.
In a statement following the meeting, OIC said that it had decided to renew its rejection and condemnation of the ongoing Israeli settlement, colonisation of, and establishment of apartheid system in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Furthermore, OIC stressed that Al Quds and Al Aqsa, Islam’s first qibla and third holiest mosque “are a red line for the ummah”.
“There can be no security and stability until they are fully liberated from occupation.”
