Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif was off-loaded from a flight to Doha en route London by the FIA early on Saturday morning.

The leader of the opposition in the National Assembly was granted permission to fly abroad on medical grounds by the Lahore High Court on Friday.

It is reported that the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) placed his name on “another list”.

Shehbaz was issued a boarding card at the Lahore airport. However, when he reached the immigration counter, he was told that he cannot board the plane. He informed the officials of the court orders that allow him to travel abroad. PML-N leader Ata Tarar reportedly read out the judicial order to the officials.

The immigration officials said the online system has not yet been updated and his name was still on the blacklist.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media, PML-N spokesperson Mariyam Aurangzeb said that two FIA officials were present in court when it issued an order allowing Shehbaz to travel abroad. The court order also mentioned the flight number the PML-N president would take to fly to Qatar, she said.

Terming it “malafide”, she said that the present government focused on Shehbaz Sharif and political opponents instead of providing electricity, water, sugar and wheat to citizens.

The PML-N spokesperson termed the FIA’s notice as “lies” and a violation of the LHC’s order.

PML-N leader Ataullah Tarar criticised the government that the prime minister could get his special assistant Zulfiqar Bukhari’s name removed from the ECL in an hour and a half while the government could not update the system despite a court order.
