National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) head Asad Umar on Friday said that the total number of critical coronavirus patients on oxygen has reached 5,360 — up by 57 per cent than the peak in last June.
In the past 24 hours, at least 5,112 people tested positive for COVID-19 while 131 lost their lives, according to the latest statistics released by the NCOC.
Umar also talked about Pakistan’s oxygen capacities in a series of tweets. He said that Pakistan’s oxygen capacity has been increased from 487 tons per day to 798 tons per day. He said Pakistan also imported 19,200 cylinders last year to ensure distribution.
According to the minister, Pakistan, at the moment, is not facing any capacity strains because of “proactive decision making” that is based on “data” and “analytical approach”.
However, the minister warned that the new few weeks would be critical given the rampant spread of the deadly virus. He also urged people to follow SOPs.
