Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N’s) senior leader Javed Latif has been arrested after a Lahore sessions court dismissed his bail plea in anti-state remark case.
The court heard on Tuesday the final arguments of the prosecutor and Latif’s lawyer Farhad Ali Shah.
Today the court heard the final arguments of the prosecutor as well as Latif’s lawyer. The prosecutor said that the accused crossed a line while defending his leader.
The verdict on his bail plea was reserved earlier after which Latif left the court premises along with his team. He was taken into custody near Sagian Bridge.
On March 20, Javed Latif was booked by the Lahore police for making anti-state remarks.
The FIR [first information report] was filed by a citizen named Jameel Saleem at the Township police station and booked the PML-N leader under sections 120, 120-B, 153, 153-A, 500, and 500 1 –B.
According to the FIR, PML-N’s Javed Latif with his remarks tried to defame the state institutions besides carrying out hate speech.
The complainant said that the statement of the PML-N leader created hate between the Pakistan People’s Party and its workers. He urged the authorities to take action against MNA Mian Javed Latif under the Pakistan Prevention of Electronic Crime Act (PECA).
The complainant further said that the lawmaker tried to hurt the sentiments of the people, adding that the PML-N leader tried to “terrorise citizens” through his remarks.
The FIR stated that by making such a statement the PML-N leader violated the law.
