Pakistan has offered India support on humanitarian grounds in its fight against the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said in a statement on Saturday that on the instructions of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Pakistan has offered support.
He said the Indian Charge de Affairs was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office “to convey our decision. We are awaiting a reply from the Indian side on the matter.”
He said “if they approve, we can send the materials at the earliest via Wagah.”
Meanwhile, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement said: “As a gesture of solidarity with the people of India in the wake of the current wave of COVID-19, Pakistan has offered to provide relief support to India, including ventilators, Bi-PAP, digital X-ray machines, PPEs and related items.
“The authorities concerned of Pakistan and India can work out modalities for quick delivery of the relief items. They can also explore possible ways of further cooperation to mitigate the challenges posed by the pandemic,” the statement concluded.
India is in a grim situation as it reported more than 346,000 death in a day, a grim milestone, due to the uncontrolled spread of coronavirus.
