Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has said that if the coronavirus situation could not be controlled within a week, a complete lockdown would have to be imposed.

Addressing a press conference at Governor’s House in Karachi, that the death toll from coronavirus has been increasing. The army was called in to implement SOPs, adding that 21 percent population was following SOPs and 77 percent coronavirus spread from urban areas.

The prime minister has opposed a complete lockdown but if things did not improve in a week, we will have to think of a complete lockdown, he added.

The federal minister said that the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was serious where the positive rate has reached 40 percent.

He said that 90 percent oxygen produced in Pakistan is being used for coronavirus patients. If needed, oxygen would be imported, he added.

Fawad Chaudhry said that coronavirus has wreaked havoc in India. The prime minister and the foreign minister have expressed good wishes for the Indian people, and prayed for the early recovery of coronavirus patients,

Replying to a question, he said that PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz has postponed her visit to Karachi due to coronavirus.

The Election Commission of Pakistan should also make an SOPs for the by-election in Karachi.

About the health card, he said that they want to issue health card in Sindh as well. Unfortunately, the Sindh government did not contribute to the health card. Journalists would be issued health cards under a special package. They [journalists] will also be include in the prime minister’s housing scheme.

Asked about the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan, Fawad Chaudhry said that the state had not compromised on its writ.

The issue has been settled, he said.
