ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reported 144 deaths and at least 5,870 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, said the National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC) in its daily statement.
Out of 144 deaths, 57 patients died on the ventilators. At least 4,652 patients are in a critical condition, as per the NCOC.
On Thursday, 72 died in Punjab, 14 in Sindh, 37 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, three in Islamabad, one in Balochistan, and six in Azad Kashmir.
In Pakistan, at least 16,842 have died of COVID-19 so far. Punjab has highest death toll since the start of pandemic. It has reported 7,799 deaths since Feb 2020, Sindh has reported 4,577, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 3,029, while the death toll in Balochistan and Islamabad Capital Territories (ICT) is 227 and 652, respectively.
Gilgit-Baltistan has recorded 104 deaths, while Azad Kashmir has reported 455 deaths so far.
562 vents occupied across Pakistan. In Gujranwala, 88 per cent of ventilators are occupied, in Lahore, 82 per cent of ventilators are occupied; in Multan and Mardan, 85 per cent and 65 per cent of ventilators are occupied, respectively.
On April 22, at least 53,818 tests were conducted. Sindh tested 12,659 people; Punjab 26,091; KP 7,729; ICT 4,713; Balochistan 1,135; GB 391; and AJK conducted 1,100 tests in past 24 hours.
