Amid widening gulf between the component parties, opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman summoned a meeting on Tuesday sans two major opposition parties — ANP and PPP.
Insiders confirmed that the Maulana has not extended an invitation to the PPP and the ANP to attend the meeting to be held at his residence in Islamabad.
Sources said that eight parties have been invited to the meeting.
The other parties in the PDM are “angry” with the People’s Party and Awami National Party over the issue of the election of Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani as opposition leader in the Senate.
The ANP announced to quit the alliance last week and the PPP on Monday decided to resign from their positions in the alliance.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari announced that the party members will resign “in protest against the attitude, conduct and actions of other office-bearers of the PDM”.
Insiders said the meeting will discuss the present scenario after the separation of the PPP and the ANP and the future course of action against the PTI-led government.
