The National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) has announced to suspend inter-provincial transport on weekends from April 10 as the coronavirus assumes alarming proportions. According to a statement issued on Sunday, inter-provincial public transport will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays and the suspension will end on April 25.

The NCOC further said that goods, freight, medical and other emergency services will be exempt from the suspension, while the railway will also continue to operate seven days a week with 70 per cent occupancy.

“The ban will be reviewed on 10 April by NCOC,” it added.

In the last 24 hours, 4,323 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Pakistan while 43 lost their lives, according to the latest statistics released by the National Command and Control Centre (NCOC). The country’s critical cases have risen to 3,587. Most deaths occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa followed by Punjab.

As of April 5, the total active COVID-19 cases in Pakistan stand at 61,450. Yesterday, 43,362 tests were conducted with Sindh conducting 8,797; Punjab:17,994; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa(KP):8,687; Islamabad(ICT):5,654; Balochistan:885; Gilgit-Baltistan(GB):355 and Azad Kashmir(AJK):990.

Out of 1,756 ventilators reserved for COVID-19 patients in the country, 438 ventilators are currently occupied. There is no patient on the ventilator in GB and Balochistan. So far, Pakistan has seen a total of 615,960 recoveries.

A total of 692,231 cases have been detected so far in the country with AJK reporting 13446; Balochistan:19,785; GB:5,059; ICT:61,552, KPK:92,423; Punjab:233,348 and Sindh:266,618.

Till now, Pakistan has recorded 14,821 deaths. Punjab is on top of the list with 6,587 casualties followed by Sindh:4,509; KPK:2,457; Islamabad: 583; Balochistan: 211; GB: 103 and AJK: 371.

631 hospitals in Pakistan are equipped with COVID-19 facilities with 4,328 patients being treated across the country. A total of 10,446,697 tests have been conducted so far.
