Former finance minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh has contracted coronavirus a day after President Arif Alvi tested positive for the deadly disease.

This was shared by Finance Minister Hammad Azhar in a tweet on Tuesday. Azhar, who replaced Sheikh as the finance minister a day ago, tweeted: “Just found out that Dr Hafeez Sh has tested positive for Covid-19. I pray for his swift recovery and good health. Ameen.”

It may be noted here that Prime Minister Imran Khan had also tested positive for the deadly virus last Saturday.

Pakistan reported at least 4,084 infections in the past 24 hours, while the positivity rate was recorded at 8.82 per cent amid the third wave.

As the coronavirus situation continues to worsen across Pakistan, the country recorded 100 deaths for the first time since December last year. Out of the 100 death, 73 were reported in Punjab, 18 in Sindh, and four in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Meanwhile, Islamabad and Azad Kashmir reported two deaths each, while one person died of coronavirus in Balochistan.
