One of the most respected writer and playwright of Pakistan, Haseena Moeen, pasedaway in Karachi, her family said on Friday. She was 79.
She has been suffering from breast cancer for some time. But the family did not reveal the cause of her death.
Her funeral will be held after Asar in the Nazimabad area in District Central.
Haseena Moeen wrote several plays for the stage, radio and television. Her most popular plays for Pakistan Television include Ankahi, Tanhaiyaan’, Kiran Kahani, Dhoop Kinaray, Aahat, Uncle Urfi, Shehzori, Kohar, Des Pardes, Pal Do Pal, Aansoo, Kasak, Parchaiyan, Parosi, Bandish and Zer Zabar Pesh.
Despite her overwhelming success on TV, she did not venture into other literary forms like novels and short stories, one of the most popular genre among Urdu fiction writers.
Haseena Moeen was born in Kanpur in undivided India on 20 November 1941 and received her early education in her home town. She moved to Karachi along with her family in the 1950s. She graduated from the Government College for Women and got a Masters in History from Karachi University in 1963.
She wrote Pakistan’s first original script ‘Kiran Kahani’ aired by the PTV in the early 1970s.
Her plays gained international repute. She was awarded the Pride of Performance for her services towards performing arts in Pakistan.
