The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday observed that the bail of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz cannot be revoked immediately.

A two-member bench issued a written directive on the request of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman who had sought revocation of her bail in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case.

The NAB chairman had said that despite repeated summons, Maryam Nawaz did not appear before the bureau and sought revocation of her bail.

On the other hand, NAB prosecutor Faisal Bukhari argued that Maryam Nawaz is on bail in money laundering case and giving statements against the state institutions.

The court directed Maryam Nawaz and the federal home secretary to file their replies on April 7.

NAB SUMMON: Earlier, the NAB directed Maryam Nawaz to appear before the bureau on March 26 after the emergence of “fresh evidence” in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case against her.

According to reports, the NAB has asked Maryam to visit its Lahore office next week where she will be quizzed in the light of the “fresh evidence”.

In the first week of March, NAB decided to include Maryam Nawaz in an on-going probe against her husband Capt (r) Safdar for allegedly owning assets beyond known sources of income. The Lahore chapter of the accountability watchdog had taken this decision after “important leads” in the case emerged.
