Two students from The University of Lahore (UOL) were expelled after a video of a girl proposing to her classmate went viral on social media.

In the video, a female student gets down on one knee and proposes to her boyfriend; the couple can then be seen hugging and holding bouquets of flowers as many bystanders can be seen cheering them on and filming the scene. A notification released by the UOL said that both had acted in violation of university rules.

After their incident, Twitter users came out in support of both students and criticised the university management for this decision. Jibran Nasir, a lawyer and a social activist said, “People are mad because two young adults had the courage to not give a damn about this hypocritical society where we top the google list for searching all sorts of perverted sexual fantasies, where harassers are celebrated and pedophiles are protected.”

Pakistan Peoples Party leader Sharmila Faruqi also took to Twitter and sided with the students and said, “Powerful! Expressive! Full of hope & love! More power to the youth!”

A Twitter user extended his help to both students and shared his mail address for them to contact him.

Imaan Zainab also bashed UOL and hypocrisy of majority of university managements in Pakistan.
