On Friday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan restrained the Capital Development Authority (CDA) from demolishing the illegal chambers of lawyers in Islamabad’s F-8.
This order came during the hearing of petition filed by the Islamabad Bar Council against the demolition of the lawyer chambers.
During the procedings, lawyers gathered at the rostrum but Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed ordered them to leave the room. “The court won’t be pressured by anyone,” he said.
In addition to this, CJ Gulzar Ahmed said that lawyers have no right to encroach public land. If they want to practice then they should make their own offices. The court also issued notices to the attorney general and advocate general.
The hearing of the case was adjourned till March 2.
On February 8, a group of lawyers had attacked the building of the Islamabad High Court. They vandalised the court building and also broke the windows of Justice Athar Minallah’s chambers. This assault at the court came in the aftermath of the operations carried out by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to demolish the encroachments.
