Taliban kidnapped 11 labourers working at the Pashdan Dam in Karokh district of Herat province on Sunday.

Provincial council member Wakil Ahmad Karokhi confirmed the abduction and said that four of the kidnapped workers were released and seven remain in Taliban custody.

He said the workers were kidnapped while they were busy at work.

There are, however, no details of the incident.

The Taliban have not yet reacted to the news.

The dam is located in Karokh, 25 kilometers northwest of Herat city.

The dam can store 45 million cubic meters of water, generate two megawatts of power, and has the capacity to irrigate 13,000 hectares of land, officials said.

The project is worth $117 million, according to officials.
