ISLAMABAD: Production orders for Members of National Assembly (MNAs) are likely to be issued by the Speaker Asad Qaiser, so they may exercise their right to vote in the upcoming Senate elections.
Sources from the leader of the Opposition’s office confirmed to local media that production orders for those who are currently in jail would be issued, adding that it is the right of every parliamentarian to vote.
As of now, notable leaders of the opposition benches, particularly MNAs of the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), are in custody. This includes; Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif and former foreign minister Khawaja Asif.
Former Leader of the Opposition and leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Khursheed Shah and MNA Ali Wazir Khan are also under arrest.
The parliamentarians are likely to be brought to Islamabad on March 2, a day before the Senate polls are held.
Senate Elections
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released the Senate elections schedule, according to which the polls will be held on March 3 for 48 seats. The last date for filing nomination papers was 13th February.
Islamabad would have 2 seats in this election, with Punjab and Sindh both having polls on 11 seats, whereas Balochistan and KP will have 12 seats each.
