French President Emmanuel Macron’s controversial stance on Islam sent a wave of anger across leaders in Pakistan, who took it upon Twitter to condemn his Islamophobic statements and applauded Prime Minister Imran Khan for raising the relevant concerns with Facebook.
Minister for Human rights, Shireen Mazari questioned the rationality behind the hatred disseminated against Muslims who hold a significant share in French population.
“From banning niqabs even during Covid-19 when masks seen as necessary to insisting blasphemous cartoons are “freedom of expression” when questioning or criticising holocaust is banned, French Islamophobia is endemic & sadly encouraged by state.”, she added in a chain of tweets.
Mazari concluded with recommendation to punish the extremists and terrorists regardless of their religion.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Ali Haider Zaidi condemned Macron’s statement on Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and said that world leaders should unite rather than inculcating divisions in the name of freedom of speech.
Special Assistant to the PM for Overseas Pakistanis, Z Bukhari while sharing PM Imran’s detailed letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg regarded it as the “sentiment of billions of Muslims”.
“There’s no such thing as ‘French Islam’, there’s only one religion Islam. Freeing Islam in France from ‘foreign’ is just a rhetoric to marginalise Muslims in the French society.” said Bukhari.
He further added that encouragement on publishing caricatures of our Holy Prophet PBUH by the French leader would further create radicalization.
Punjab Minister for food, Abdul Aleem Khan praised Imran Khan to be the only leaders who is always highlighting this issue on every platform.
“Islamophobia is a serious issue that is hurting the sentiments of Muslims around the globe.”, Khan tweeted.
