The legal battle between United States blogger Cynthia D Richie and PPP Senator Rehman Malik reached its end on Thursday, when the Islamabad High Court (IHC) accepted their respective petitions to withdraw their earlier cases against one another.

Ritchie, who moved to Pakistan in 2010, had filed a case against the PPP leader last year, alleging Malik had raped her in 2011. Malik had, in turn, filed a defamation notice against the American blogger.

According to Ritchie’s lawyer, Imran Feroz Malik, she had filed a miscellaneous petition to withdraw her case against Malik. Malik’s lawyer, meanwhile, withdrew the defamation petition against Ritchie.

The IHC’s Justice Amir Farooq granted both the petitions today, legally bringing both cases to a close.
