American fashion retailer, Fossil, launched its Gen 5 LTE smartwatch at CES 2021. While this is not the company’s first foray into the wearables market, it is the manufacturer’s first device that allows you to receive notifications and phone calls away from your phone.
The watch runs on Google’s Wear OS smartwatch and comes with LTE technology, allowing you to connect it to a mobile network that is separate to your phone. However, the smartwatch will only work with Android devices.
The spec sheet of the Fossil Gen 5 LTE is similar to the original watch, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 3100 chipset inside paired with1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. This may not make it the fastest smartwatch on the market but where Fossil loses out on performance, it makes up for in style as the new watch comes in an array of different styles and can be paired with stainless steel bands as well as leather straps. The understated design and great battery life of previous generations have been carried forward, which makes this a solid watch for the everyday wearer.
The new LTE technology is definitely a welcome addition but makes the watch subject to greater taxes on import to Pakistan. The PTA requires that all network-connected devices be registered with them. Hence, to use the LTE functionality of the device within Pakistan, users will have to pay the applicable duty.
