KARACHI: The government has shortlisted candidates for an available vacancy of Chairman Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and submitted the selected names to the Prime Minister House for final and other regulatory approvals.

 The Ministry has selected the name of Dr Tanvir Qureshi, an Ex DMG officer, Mohmmad Hanif (Qatar International), Masroor Khan , M Yousuf Khan (Petro-Globe Dubai), Dr Aamer Jadoon and Shahid Karim. These names have been finalized out of 24 candidates interviewed by the special selection committee led by Shahzad Akbar. The cabinet division had sent a list to intelligence agencies and other authorities for clearance, the sources in Islamabad said. 

Dr Tanvir Qureshi had served in petroleum division and developed differences with special assistant to Prime Minister on Petroleum Nadeem Babar on LNG issue. Mohammad Hanif Khan was a former employee of LMKR but now working with Qatar International and will have a powerful federal minister’s backing, the source said.

Chairperson Uzma Adil was retired from this post in July 2020 and since that time; the OGRA chairman’s position was vacant. Uzma Adil, a chartered accountant by profession, joined the OGRA as first-ever lady chairperson in 2016 and took very bold steps in regulating the oil and gas sectors. Before joining OGRA, she was CFO (Chief Financial Officer) in Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited.
